EOS RESEARCH CENTERS
The more than 300 faculty, staff, and students of the Institute are affiliated with one of our four research centers. The centers provide opportunities for interaction and collaboration in small groups of researchers having similar interests, as well as specialized administrative and technical support. The Institute's unique design also leads to interdisciplinary cooperation on numerous projects within individual centers.
The Space Science Research Center fosters research and graduate education in all of the space sciences ranging from the ionosphere, to the Earth's magnetosphere, to the local solar system, and out to the farthest reaches of the universe. Faculty and students are affiliated with the Dept. of Physics with its graduate degree program specialization in Space Physics/Astrophysics.
The Complex Systems Research Center is dedicated to understanding the Earth as an integrative system and exploring the physical, chemical and biological processes that shape the Earth's environment. Emphasis is placed on the role of humans in this change. Faculty and students are affiliated with either the Dept. of Natural Resources or the Dept. of Earth Sciences with degree programs in Natural Resources or Geochemical Systems, and with the interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Natural Resources and Earth System Science (NRESS).
Research in the Ocean Process Analysis Laboratory focuses on a range of physical, geochemical, and biological processes in the Gulf of Maine, Gulf Stream, North Atlantic, and California Current. Faculty and students are affiliated with the Departments of Earth Sciences or Zoology, and with degree programs in Oceanography, Marine Ecology, and the NRESS Ph.D.
The Climate Change Research Center investigates atmospheric dynamics and the chemical aspects of climate change. Center faculty, staff, and students are involved in major field measurement programs ranging from local to global-scale airborne missions. Faculty and students are affiliated with the Dept. of Earth Sciences and degree programs in Natural Resources and Environmental Systems or Earth and Environmental Sciences, and the NRESS Ph.D.
